I am in the process of giving my living room a make-over, what color paint goes well with red carpet?

room is 17×16, very old home. One wall is cabinets, fireplace and shelf that will remain white. Red could be cranberry, burgundy or some darker color. I have pets so that is why I opted for a darker color. I just want a combo that looks nice! Thanks!

the first thing you have to determine is whether or not this is a warm or cool red…you can tell very easily by putting something yellow or blue (say a towell, scarf, paper) on the carpet; if it seems to go well, or 'blend' with the yellow,it's a warm red; if it goes well with the blue, then it's a 'cool' red…this very important when selecting your wall color!!!! If you have, say a warm red, and you choose cool color for the walls, it will be a tremendous clash…and you may feel there's something just not right with the room, and not be able to figure out what it is, when all it is, is the color tones clash!! Believe me, I speak from experience………have fun………

Who coined the cliche, I'm alive and well and living in Argentina?

It strikes me that my core culture is a very subcontious kind of process. I don't want to sound abstract, but I am. I realize I am very bias about my culture. The inference in the above cliche is that there is something wrong with Agrentina. This is because we won world war two and feel it is appropriote to put down the loosers. So who cares, I am just trying to see my culture without the rose color glasses.

How much are the living costs for a single person living moderately well but still being stingy in the US?

This depends on where you want to live. California and New York are really expensive, meaning you really need to make at least $80,000 To live and that probably won't cover the cost of a home. If you live in Mississippi or Missouri, or alot of other Southeastern states I think you can get by in the $35-50000 a year income range. the farther away from a big city the cheaper the cost of living is as well. If you want a more specific answer add more details as to what region you are interested in.

My new well- built house with 2408 living area square feet.Is 5 ton AC unit too big for it ?

Unless you are in the south Florida or south Texas areas, 5 tons is a little much. The problem with an oversized unit is that they do not dehumidify well and lower humidity is a major contributor to comfort when cooling.

Thermostats operate on temperature so when an oversized unit shuts down at 72 degrees the hunidity might be 60% or higher. A properly sized unit at 72 degrees would more than likely pull the humidity down below 50%.

What do you do for a living? Is it hourly pay or is it salary? How well do you like your job? Pros and cons?

Just wandering…. i'm in the health care profession and am a radiographer. I like my job except that its under paid and having to do the time clock thing kills me!
School for radiography is a full two years at a hospital based program. It can also be obtained through a 4 year bachelor of science degree. Either way you will never be out of a job that is rewarding (helping patients get better) and in demand. A fairly strong understanding of mathematics is needed (up to algebra and easy trig/calc)

I do daycare out of my home $30.00per child per day.
Music lessons in the evenings - $25.00per hour.
I do my own taxes and write off almost everything - house, gas, hydro, insurance, mortgage interest, food (for daycare), etc. works out pretty good. My husband has a union job and gets all the extra benefits.

Are there any grants for single moms that pay not only school, but also living expenses as well?

My friend is a single mom who want to go back to school to be a dental hygienist but also needs help with living expenses as well. Are there any grants out there for her that do both?

Nothing is going to pay for all of her living expenses. Your friend could apply for financial aid, and may even receive a refund (but it's not guaranteed - I've been in school for 3+ years and never received a refund). Your friend could apply for housing help (section 8) and energy assistance (in the winter). In addition, she may qualify for food stamps to help with grocery costs. Other than that, she's going to need to work at least part-time and possibly full-time, depending on her expenses. Many schools now offer online courses, distance courses, Saturday classes, or evening classes to accommodate working students. I take 2 classes online and 1 class at the school. The class at school meets one night a week for 4 hours.

Are you a member of the Church of Scotland, living in England? Do you feel, well, "left out"?

I am C of S, English, living in England. There are barely any C of S churches in England (and none near me), and I suppose this makes me feel like I don't really "belong" to any denomination properly.

I go to Anglican churches, and sometimes Catholic ones too, but I just wondered if anyone has the same problem, and how you feel about it, with the Church of Scotland being a Presbyterian denomination, and living in a predominantly Anglican country?

Thanks x

Why don't you just find a presbyterian church? It won't be CofS, but I guess it would be closer than CofE or Catholic.

How can I help my 8 year old son adjust well to living in China?

He will also be away from home without his mother for the first time.

1 - get him involved with other boys his age, from the same country as well as Chinese, there are cubscout troops in Shanghai and Beijing. Friends are VERY improtant
2 - Find him a good Chinese tutor if he is not going to be in a Chinese school, it is important for him to learn the language
3 - Protect him, make him feel and know that you are there for him and him alone, provide stabilty in his life and enviroment
4 - Make his room HIS, take him out and let him pick some cool stuff for his room, IKEA is a great place to look, also Shanghai has a Toys-r-us
5 - Send time with him, just you and him, take him out for burgers and fries
