Swollen Gums: An Affliction Caused By Gum Disease

Most people are afflicted by gum disease at some stage in their lives, and this dental disease is characterized by red, swollen gums that bleed easily when touched or brushed. Gingivitis is the mildest form of gum disease, the common reason why people are experiencing bleeding and swollen gums due to the build up of plaque. At this stage, there is little or no discomfort can be felt by dental patients. Gingivitis is the reversible stage of gum disease and be prevented by good oral home care and professional dental cleaning. However, gum swelling could also be a way your mouth is telling you that something is amiss with your health. More serious conditions like leukemia or diabetes are the other reasons for bleeding and swollen gums.
